Frequently Asked Questions

Files

  • By uploading your syllabus when you create your course, we will automatically populate the course information with the details from your syllabus.

A syllabus helps the AI calibrate how to handle your other files.

  • No.

We do not use professor or student data to algorithmically train models and we are committed to only use external API partners that are both SOC 2 Type II certified and who contractually guarantee they do not use any data we send them to train models.

    .

  • All Day TA processes the files and they are then permanently deleted. All that remains are the file tokens (which is basically the "chopped up and human-unreadable data" that is used by our underlying large language model). That means that neither you nor anyone else can ever download your materials.

  • Upload your handouts, slides, old homework grading notes, audio or video transcripts of your courses, sample problem sets, readings, and teaching notes.

Any file you upload may be used to answer questions.

  • The file types we currently support are: .pdf, .pptx, .docx, .txt, .tex, .md, .html, .htm, .mp3, .mp4, .wav, .ogg, .m4a

Currently, we don't accept rtf, doc, ppt, epub or Keynote files, though the team at HQ is working on it!

  • We have file size limits in place for PDFs and audio/video files. They are as follows (per file):

    • maximum 100 pages for PDFs

    • maximum 4 hours of audio/video

  • There is no limit to how many files you may upload.

Please note that uploading large volumes of files all at once may result in a longer wait for all files to complete processing.

  • The AI attempts to interpret images and tables correctly from PDFs, and tables correctly from tex and docx files.

If you have slide decks that are heavy on visual content, we recommend that you save them as a PDFs before uploading them.

  • Audio and PDF files take approximately 15 seconds per page of PDF or minute of audio.

Large files and large groups of files will take longer to completely process.

Once your files have moved from "Loading" to "Processing" you can leave the Files screen and return at a later time when they have completed.

  • Files are set to “Active” by default on upload, this “Active” status determines whether or not the AI is able or unable to draw on that particular file when answering students.

  • By unchecking the "Active" checkbox next to a file, you make that file's content unavailable to the AI to answer questions.

You can make a file's contents available to the AI again by checking the "Active" checkbox.

  • We recommend that you rename your files using short descriptive names if they are unclear - this helps the AI find what it needs to answer students.

If you want to rename a file after you have uploaded, you may click the "Edit" icon button in the file's row to rename it.

  • If you want to replace a file with an updated version after you have uploaded, you may click the "Edit" icon button in the file's row to replace it.

  • Uploading duplicate files negatively impacts All Day TA’s ability to correctly answer questions.

If you are trying to upload a different file with the same name, please rename the file with a unique and descriptive title before trying to upload it again.

  • You can update your syllabus from two locations:

    1) By navigating to "Course Information" from the Menu and clicking the button "Update Syllabus".

    2) On the "Files" screen in the files table, your syllabus will be marked with a chip that says "Syllabus", you can click the "Edit" (pencil icon) in that row to upload a revised syllabus.

Your updated syllabus will repopulate the course information form for your review. Review the information and make any necessary revisions, scroll down and click "Save".

  • You can create a “Note” from the “Files” screen. A note is simply a text file that you can create directly in All Day TA for any information you’d like to add to your AI Assistant that you might not have a file prepared for.

You can also use notes to copy/paste questions you receive via email and your responses.

Weekly Summaries

  • You can see all student questions, All Day TA's answers, and a weekly summary informing you about where the students are having trouble.

  • If you don't see a summary for a given week, it could be for the following reasons:

    1. The summary has not been generated yet, we generate a summary for each week on the Monday after the week has concluded

    2. There were too few questions asked in a given week to generate a summary

  • There were no questions asked during that week.

  • Not currently.

We use the student's rating of answers to improve our services.

We may expose student ratings to professors in future.

  • You can update your preference to receive or not receive weekly summaries emails for each course you have on All Day TA by navigating to “Weekly Summaries” and checking/unchecking the checkbox labelled “Receive Weekly Summary Emails”.

  • Weekly summaries emails are only sent out for a course if there are more than 10 questions asked that week.

  • Weekly summaries emails are sent out for the previous week on Mondays, depending on your location the email may be sent out in the morning or early afternoon.

All Day TA

  • You can share your All Day TA with your students by sending or sharing the Course URL with them. You can find it:

    1. In the "Menu" in the header, as a link called "View Student All Day TA"

    2. On the "Preview" screen in the header, you can copy it by clicking the button "Copy Student URL"

  • There is currently no limit to the number of questions a student can ask.

  • You can add content any time during the semester - many times when the AI has trouble answering a student, it is because the professor has not given it enough context to understand a certain topic.

If you have tried uploading additional content and are still having issues, please contact support.

  • Yes, students can copy their question, answer and the corresponding footnotes by clicking the "Copy" button after the answer.

  • We collect the student rating of answers and use it to improve our Services.

  • The footnotes for answers are determined by referring to the contents used by the AI to answer the question.

  • We can currently support code examples in a limited capacity. We will be improving upon this in future.

Mathematical calculations and derivations still present the occasional problem - we are improving this rapidly, however!

  • You can restrict public access to your All Day TA course URL by navigating to “Settings” and checking the “Require Student Emails” checkbox in the Students - Restrict Public Access section.

You must then invite your students via email to your course. They will receive an email notifying them that you have set up the course and a magic link that will log them in via email to your course URL.

They can also access the course url directly from the URL by entering the email address you used to invite them.
